Dear colleagues!

The Russian Journal of Earth Sciences published a special issue, "Kamchatka Earthquake M 8.8 on July 29, 2025" dedicated to the Kamchatka earthquake of July 29, 2025. This magnitude 8.8 event was the strongest seismic event in the world since the magnitude 9.1 Tohoku earthquake off the coast of Japan in 2011 and is the sixth-strongest ever recorded. This special issue brings together the work of leading experts who present a comprehensive analysis of the Kamchatka earthquake.

Introductory remarks from the editors-in-chief:

Russian Journal of Earth Sciences (RJES) publishes original fundamental research papers and reviews in all fields of Earth sciences and interdisciplinary results integrating advances from related scientific disciplines: geomagnetism, geology, geochemistry, geophysics, geoinformatics, geography, geoecology, physics of the Earth, seismology, volcanology, geodesy, petroleum geology and geophysics, remote sensing of the Earth, oceanology, water resources, mining, environment and climate, studies of the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as big data in Earth sciences and system analysis of the aforementioned disciplines. The journal accepts articles in Russian and English.

The main goal of the publication is to communicate to the international scientific community the results of fundamental research obtained by Russian scientists. Articles from foreign authors and international teams are also accepted for publication; papers devoted to common problems of Earth sciences and research in Northern Eurasia are particularly welcome.

Russian Journal of Earth Sciences has stable scientometric indicators. In the academic ranking of RSCI the journal is in the first quartile K1 (normalized rating 0.410), in the summary ranking of RSCI it ranks 143rd out of 931, and in the subject ranking "OECD 105. Earth and related environmental sciences" – 21st out of 61. It is included in the core of RSCI, with an impact factor of 0.89. It is included in the "White List" (Level 1). The journal is represented in international citation databases: Scopus, Web of Science, GeoRef. It is in the 3rd quartile in ScimagoJR (Q3) and has a CiteScore = 1.1. In the Web of Science database it is included in the fourth quartile (Q4) in the knowledge area "Geosciences, Multidisciplinary". The journal has been accepted into DOAJ.

Articles submitted for publication undergo a standard single-blind peer review process (the reviewer knows the authors' names, the authors do not know the reviewer's name) and expert evaluation; all materials undergo editorial processing.

Accepted articles are published in high-resolution PDF format with hyperlinks to internal (figures, tables, etc.) and external (online documents) objects. The online version is the primary version (version of record).
