Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy

Authors are required to transparently declare the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, including large language models, generative services, and other automated tools, in the preparation of their manuscript.

General Principles

Responsibility for the content of the manuscript, its accuracy, originality, and compliance with publication ethics rests solely with the author(s). The use of AI does not remove or diminish this responsibility.

AI systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, as they cannot bear responsibility for the content of the work.

AI may not be used to generate or alter primary research data or images (microscopy, blots, scans, spectra, etc.), or to fabricate or falsify results.

What Must Be Disclosed

Disclosure is required for the use of AI for:

  • preparing, editing, or translating the manuscript text;
  • analyzing data, interpreting results, or formulating conclusions;
  • generating figures, diagrams, code, or bibliographic entries;
  • any other tasks affecting the content or presentation of the work.

What Does Not Require Disclosure

No declaration is required for the use of:

  • basic spelling and grammar checkers;
  • standard reference managers (Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, etc.);
  • assistive technologies.

Form of Declaration

Where disclosure is required, authors must include a separate “AI Use Statement” section placed immediately before the reference list, using the following template:

“During the preparation of this work the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication.”

If AI was used for data analysis, interpretation of results, or other tasks affecting the scholarly content, authors must additionally describe this in the “Materials and Methods” section, specifying the tool, version (if available), purpose of use, and how the output was verified by a human.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Incomplete or inaccurate disclosure of AI use is considered a violation of publication ethics and may result in rejection of the manuscript, retraction of the article, or other measures in accordance with the journal’s policy.
